About Us

History:
In 1941 an open art exhibition for adults was given in the Downers Grove Library, which showcased the work of local artists and others with a talent for art. Later, a small group meeting was held where the idea of organizing an artists’ guild was conceived. A few weeks later, The Downers Grove Artists’ Guild was organized with a charter membership of ten. The guild includes artists from several surrounding suburbs as well as Downers Grove.
The Downers Grove Artists’ Guild supports the fine arts by encouraging artists to explore their talents through participating in a variety of presentations and demonstrations. The Guild offers an environment that encourages the exploration of new ideas, media and techniques to enhance the creative process while stimulating the artist to create fine works of art. Members have the opportunity to exhibit bi-annually at a juried show held in the gallery of the Downers Grove Library Art Gallery, the Downers Grove Park District Museum, Doubletree Esplanade Convention Center and at other exhibits. Membership is open to all artists, and to all who have a passion for fine art. We also have periodic paint-outs at various gardens, museums and members homes. Our annual summer luncheon has been a continuing success and is held at various local restaurants.
